Cabinets, Part 2 - The Love Story Continues

I thought I was in love yesterday but today I fell hard - not literally. Ignore the dust spots on the picture and the old light fixture and check out that dining room pantry cabinet. I think we may actually be able to unpack a bunch of our wedding gifts and bring them down from the attic.

I was worried when the rest of the cabinets came in the room might start to feel closed in, but it still feels very open. And I think we've set up an excellent work triangle. Our kitchen activities will be so much more efficient now.

Jason is disappointed we have all these little spaces behind the filler panels that won't be accessible. This man loves secret storage like i love tall cabinets.

Tomorrow they make the counter top template and rumor has it the floors will go in on Friday. Fingers crossed!

Hip Hip Hooray for Cabinet Day!

We have made it through day one of cabinet installation! You can definitely see it all coming together now. It's a very exciting time at Chez Tourtellinger.
Oh pantry cabinet, how I love thee! We're going to have so many good times together, I can tell already. More pictures to come when the rest of the cabinets are in tomorrow.

Showered

The office threw me a surprise shower yesterday. Jason was in on it and made sure I didn't stay home all day with the plumber. He told me I had an important "secret meeting" to attend at 4:30 so I should make my way into the city before then.
Katie, Beth and Ashley did an awesome job pulling it all together. Ashley even made gluten and dairy free cupcakes and decorated them with adorable farm animal cutouts. She made sure everyone kept the cutouts clean and gave them to me for any scrapbooking I might do. I'm thinking they might become a mobile or garland in the nursery.
Katie finger knit a cord they used to spell out "Congrats!" on the tack board. you can kind of see the start of the "C" to the right above. I saved that too for some fun home garland and spelling activities.
Thanks gang for a great party!

Rearranged

Welcome to our Liv-kitch-ing room.

The full size fridge was the best addition we ever made to an entertainment center.
And where's the best place to keep the snacks and microwave? Next to the pregnant lady that doesn't want to move, of course. Dishes are currently being washed in the guest bathroom.

Put the Hammer Down

The demo crew arrived bright and early Monday morning and made fast work of removing the walls, cabinets and old appliances. Since then we've had the plumber and electrician out to the house as well to get the rough connections in place.

Here's a view to the where the kitchen once was and will be again.
Here's where the cooktop lived and the fridge still was, until last night. (we needed the plumber to disconnect the water connection for the ice maker.) The new range will be on this wall. The new fridge moves to the wall on the left.
This is the view from the dining room to the kitchen now! Goodbye wall! The electrician has since removed all the dangly outlets and switches.

Here's the view back to the dining room. The fridge will be to the right and the peninsula will be between the two rooms. Fingers crossed for things to keep moving ahead smoothly.

Nesting: The Next Level

I've heard that when you're close to your due date you'll start going crazy cleaning up the house and getting things ready. I'm not sure what exactly it means when you let a crew of men with sledge hammers into your house 4 weeks before your due date, but it gets me pretty excited!
The kitchen renovation started on Monday. Here are some before shots to show you where we started.
Here's the view from the dining room of the wall that is being removed. This is where the peninsula will go.

The sink and dishwasher stay in the same place but the wall oven is no more. She served her purpose well over the last 27 years. Thanks wall oven. We'll miss your fancy flip clock.

This is the other side of the wall from the dining room (to the left). A big shout out to Amanda and Melissa for their help with wall paper removal. Amanda did a big chunk of this for us back in November and she and Melissa nearly finished the job last weekend while visiting. (Jason finished the work after they left.) Graham also ripped off a few strips. He was sad to see the flowers go but he's offered to come back when it's time to paint so we can put new flowers back on the walls and counters.

Here you can see our awesome cooktop and the matching flowers on the countertop. Graham took my potato scrubber and tried to remove them for us. Sadly no luck so the counter got the sledge hammer treatment instead.
This is a view straight in from the dining room. If anyone needs a ceiling fan, there is still time to claim it. You must pick-up.

Ever Expanding Waistline

I walked downstairs yesterday morning holding the camera and Jason said, "Oh you must be feeling good today." He knows not every day can be picture day.

I'm officially at 34 weeks. Time is really flying by now. And the belly just keeps growing. The little one has been dancing up a storm the last couple of days. Yesterday I was really craving sugar so she may have been on some sort of sugar high and bouncing off the walls, so to speak.
Next week will start the weekly doctor's visits so I'm sure the time will go even faster after that. Right now she's seems to be resting mostly under my diaphragm so I don't expect she'll be making her escape anytime soon.
